Begijnhof Amsterdam

Something you won’t expect, when you’re walking down the famous shopping street ‘Kalverstraat’. In the middle of the street, near the Amsterdam Museum, you should pay attention. There’s a small entrance to a hidden courtyard and garden, the ‘Begijnhof‘. Actual small houses, formerly occupied by beguines, now home to all kinds of people. They gave up a bit of privacy, while during opening hours, you can visit their courtyard, but only walk through. For a moment you forget your in a capital city, here you’re just in a yard with beautiful dutch houses, thinking if you could live here.

Across from the church there’s a black wooden house, the oldest house in Amsterdam.
